This is a listing of the first female attorneys in the United States and for each individual state. If available, the following data is also provided:
- The year in which the women were admitted to practice law (shown in parentheses).
- An inclusion of the first female attorneys who were the following:
- The first women in their state to obtain a law degree.
- The first women of color to practice law in their state.
- The first women to practice law who are part of a particular faith.
- The first women to become a judge or achieve a special designation (e.g., first female faculty member).
- The women (regardless of faith or ethnicity) who started their law practice in a certain region (arranged by county name).
For certain entries, there are debates as to who the "first" female lawyer may have been in her respective state or ethnic group. In which case, several names may have been provided in order to promote further research.
